Using our leadership in carbon fibre technology, we have perfected the art of multi-modulus rod manufacture to produce a range of rods for every location that are strong yet lightweight with actions that uniquely combine power and sensitivity.
Choosing your Hardy rod
Before Hardy pioneered multi-modulus rod design, fishing rods generally fell into two categories: distance casting rods, which were stiff as poles and consequently transmitted none of the excitement of playing a fish, or softer rods, which tended to oscillate wildly when cast. Fortunately, Hardy broke the mould with multi-modulus technology. Now you can have a Hardy trout rod that has the strength to lift a long line off the water and cast long distances without loss of sensitivity. Equally, you can choose a salmon rod that will flex deep enough to roll a Spey cast, yet will not oscillate because of its excellent dampening characteristics.
The action and length of each rod determines how far it will cast a line.
Each Hardy rod series is characterised by its action. A 'tip action' rod that quickly returns to its original position when fully flexed is excellent for distance casting. A rod with a deeper flex that extends closer to the butt is ideal for delicate presentation at shorter distances. To guide you in your choice of rod, we have graded rod actions as follows.
Single-handed rods for trout, sea trout and saltwater
fishing
Tip action
Lifts a long line off the water; good for distance casting.
Middle action
Easy rod to handle; good for middle distance casting; lifts a fair length
of line off the water to respond swiftly to a rise.
Butt action
Allows slow false casting of a short line when targetting a rising fish.
Double-handed rods for salmon
Middle to tip action
Good for overhead distance casting and for Spey casting
Middle action
Easy rod to handle; good for middle distance overhead or Spey casting.
